The Cat in the Hat Comes to Kindergarten!

March 2 is a special day celebrated around the country.  It is Dr. Seuss' birthday!  In honor of Dr. Seuss, "Read Across America"  was formed.  This is a day (one of many - in my humble opinion) we celebrate reading!   Schools all over America celebrated books through the wonderful works of Dr. Seuss - Winside was no exception.

In the afternoon the boys and girls changed into their PJ's. We read books and then followed up with an activity.  What a fun day!!  Enjoy the pictures - I just wish I could capture the laughter!

Ready for a wonderful afternoon with Dr Seuss!

After reading The Cat in the Hat,  we made Thing 1 and Thing 2.

Our next book was One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.  Each student was given a baggie of goldfish crackers for a graphing activity.  The boys and girls sorted, counted, made tallies, then colored in their graphs.

Of course, no day celebrating Dr. Seuss would be complete without reading Green Eggs and Ham and then making our own version of this yummy dish.  Each student got the opportunity to help stir our  treat!

Doesn't it just make your mouth water!!!

"Not. Quite. Sure. If. I. Should. Try. It. "
(Doesn't this remind you of an illustration from the book!)

Seven of our thirteen kiddos did like our green eggs and ham!!
One of my kiddos even thought I should  have my own cooking show!!!  :o)

Mrs. Darci Frahm donated these delicious cookies for our whole elementary!
Thank you!! Thank you, Mrs. Frahm!!

Guess who just walked in our classroom to surprise the Kindergarten and First grade!

The Cat in the Hat (a.k.a. senior Alec Sindelar) read The Cat in the Hat Comes Back to the boys and girls!
