"And the Award Goes to......."

It is true - we work hard in Kindergarten but that hard work does not go unrecognized. Quite a bit of our morning is spent on letter names, their sounds, and our popcorn words.  I try to provide many opportunities for practice through whole class, small group and independent activities.

When a student has learned ALL of the letters (capital and lower case) names and their sounds, he/she is presented the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Award in a class ceremony.  I have a special trophy ready for each student. For reading ALL popcorn words presented for the quarter, the students are awarded with the Popcorn Award.  It includes some microwave popcorn and "pop" - grape juice.  This award is also presented in a class ceremony.
